Hello,
I am quite new to all boats-related and trying to figure out an outboard for my new SIB (Honwave IE32).
My thoughts are following:
Since most of the time I will be going out alone, my no 1 priority is weight - I must be able to manage all by myself. I am not super-strong, I'm just your regular office guy. And I have had my back issues... fortunately so far it's not regular.
I think 10 hp is enough for me, although 15 hp is allowed for IE 32.
Honda 10 hp outboard is 42 kg, Mercury and Tohatsu are 5 kg lighter, around 37...38 kg-s.
Now, I am looking for "super reliability". What is the general consensus - is the Honda worth the extra cash and extra weight?
Would I be more-less safe with Mercury or Tohatsu?
Or should I go for even more weight and look for Mercury 15 EFI (fuel injected, 48 kg)?
What brand has served You flawlessly?
(I have a Honda motorcycle, which is often referred as "bomb-proof" and true - it has not failed me once. I wonder could this "bomb-proofness" be extended to outboards as well...?)
Thank You for Your thoughts.
S.

the big question is whether you will be trailoring , ie motor permanently on the transome , or mount and demount outboard every trip. if you are not a big fella then 42 kg is quite a lump

I would look at a Suzuki, Mercury or Tohatsu 15(in that order of preference) as they are lighter than the Honda 15. They are also fuel injected which is just a joy - my Suzuki starts first time, every time; no choke, no messing around, no chance of flooding it.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

I'm a massive fan of the superb Suzuki motors due to reliability, lightweight, smooth running and economy...,Suzuki would be my choice,
Prob followed by the extensive warranty tohatsu motors, slightly lighter than Suzuki too.
