Wow.... .price for service Honda BF15d

Post by Cat10 » 23 Oct 2019, 20:41

Hi, I have just been quoted £275 for an annual service on my Honda bf15d.
This is a box standard motor with pull start and tiller control.
This seems very expensive, any idea why ?
The motor is a year old with 37hours.

Outboard service costs are often more than car service costs.
I just had a quick gander, and the service kit for your engine is about £70. Then there is oil and grease to add to that, so let’s say £120 for bits if you went out and bought them. Then add two hours work at £75 an hour for a main dealer and you have £270.
I’m not saying that is a good or fair price, just a typical one.
Once my Suzuki is out of warrantee I will be servicing it myself.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

@sonny1 thats a good/fair price for what sounds like a very comprehensive first service. Pretty cool you’ve a good dealer fairly local. Nice one :thumbsup

Yearly servicing on our Mariner 60 is usually around £250. Might be more this year as the 3yr/300hr has a few additional items scheduled...booked in for next week...eek!

Our Suzi 20 used to cost well under £200, although was a few years back.

The new Mariner 20 will be serviced next month and hoping it won’t be more than £200.

Must admit dealer servicing is a pain but at least keeps the warranty intact. Certainly been worth it on the 60 as just had the complete ptt unit replaced under warranty, with an advised cost not far shy of £2000....ouch!

let us know what the mariner costs please ian, just as a matter of interest. your reference to my motors servicewas spot on, not only did it seem comprehensive but the two fitters went the extra mile to point out and explain what had been done, they were pleasant to deal with. if i were cat 10 i would ring round a few places for a check price starting with barnet marine , theyre not a million miles from oxford

I pay about 145€ for annual maintenance including read out of the engine. I discovered the fuel filter wasn’t checked, it contained a bit water which gave me trouble from time to time. The guy thought it was an electronic problem. Another official dealer cleaned it and advised to put an inline filter. No problems since I did. The price was right but I think the service could be better.

Hey sonny,

Just had the Mariner 20 serviced at Central Marine Services in Ilkeston. Came in at just under £195 all in including parts, oils, labour and the dreaded vat.

The Mariner 60 three year service came in at just under £280 and carried out by P A Lynch up in Morpeth.

All in all good service from both, and around what I expected cost wise.

Gotta laugh at prices on anything labelled ‘marine’ though. By contrast we have an Audi service plan at £360, which covers two variable mileage services...so well over 3 years/36,000 miles motoring covered.

One reason for not buying a new outboard was the cost of servicing would mean I would pay for it two times over to keep the warranty. I like to do all the servicting myself and even make my own gaskets where needed...
