Securing a fuel tank by the transom in a T38
Hi folks!
I have just bought a new engine, a shiny 20hp Suzuki.
However, the fuel line doesn’t appear to be long enough to reach the hold down point under the seat. I haven’t tried it, but it is half a meter shorter than my old fuel line and that only just reached.
So - any ideas / suggestions on how to hold a tank down by the transom?
The alternative is buy a longer fuel line, but I am very aware that the effort it takes to draw fuel increases quickly with line length.
Thoughts / suggestions etc etc please!

Re: Securing a fuel tank by the transom in a T38
I’ve got the opposite problem in that I want my two 12L tanks (easier to carry) in the Honwave position rather than the original hold-down position near the transom. My solution is to use a 12mm marine ply board, rubber edged and sized to fit snugly under the tubes and across the floor. Not sure whether that’s feasible with a V floor, otherwise how about a couple of stick-on D rings.

I would go with a longer fuel line. I’ve used 4 metre long fuel lines without any issues.

Cool. I shall get a longer line. That’s easier than fashioning a new tie down

I think that’s the easiest way out of it Chris,
My line goes down the side of the boat to under the front seat & never had any problems.
I did see the strap patches to stick to the floor sometime ago so you must be able to get them if you really want to put the tank by the transom.

I just let the fuel line lie in the V on the floor, and put tank in normal place, to short to run around sides.

I think I would just wind up kicking it all the time. I might do this tomorrow tho.
I’ve had a look and I am just going to buy 1.5m if 6mm fuel tubing and extend the bit between the tank and the bulb. All I need to do now is sell my old 9.9.
Anyone in the market?

Re: Securing a fuel tank by the transom in a T38
My tank came with 3m of fuel line and definitely never had a problem with priming. And the generous length allows for various routing options for the line so I'd say the longer the better.
And cool news on the 20hp. That'll get you zooming.
I'd very much like to buy your 9.9 (would be perfect for the Thames instead of my too-smoke), but unfortunately with building work currently sucking my bank account dry I suspect the missus would be less inclined to see the financial sense in the purchase...

I find owning up to purchases after they had been completed works best. I bought a sailing yacht, and then told my wife afterwards.
