Modifying Propeller Pitch
Hey folks!
I have an elderly Selva engine and I may need to change the pitch of the propeller. You can’t get the props new any more so I would need to have the existing prop modified. My research shows it can be done on an aluminium prop.
Does anyone know of a company who can perform such modifications?
Cheers,
Chris

Re: Modifying Propeller Pitch
When you find someone to do that Chris, I'd be absolutely fascinated to know how it's done.
Do they bend the blades, cut them off and reposition them or make a new casting based on the original 'hub'?
I'm intrigued...

Re: Modifying Propeller Pitch
Try https://www.michiganpropellers.co.uk/ @ChrisParish. I purchased a propeller off them and had it modified before they shipped it to me. They might modify your own prop.
Steel Developments will modify propeller pitch and refurbish existing propellers. However when I phoned them wanting a cupped propeller for my Tohatsu 9.8 I found them to be unhelpful, arrogant and rude.

Hi @Si Crowe
That’s the problem I have - you can’t get propellers for the old Selva 2 strokes any more

Re: Modifying Propeller Pitch
I'm sure you've already looked but purely by chance whilst looking for something else today I tripped over a German site selling Selva propellers so I did a quick search and came across 2 or 3 other European sites selling them as well. They may not be the ones you're looking for but Selva seems to be better catered for in Europe than the UK - might be worth a try.
Is that where they come from?

Re: Modifying Propeller Pitch
@Brerabit you are quite right about them being better catered for in Europe. They are Italian.
The latest ones are just Yamahas with a different paint job but the one I have dates from the days when Selva were doing pressure castings for Yanmar Diesel engines. The engine block seems to be bespoke but the gearbox looks all the world like a Johnson / Evinrude except that the splines don’t match.

Re: Modifying Propeller Pitch
I don’t have the info to hand: I’ll look it up and get back to you.
My Dad has spoken to Wet Bristol Marine about the engine and found them to be highly unhelpful - they just told him “all the information is on our website”. Except that it isn’t.
