Petrol tank
Bought a hulk 22lt petrol tank , just filled it up and petrol seeping out of the connector for outboard fuel line at the bottom where it's attached to the container . Anything I can do as suspect this is a fault. ?

Re: Petrol tank
How is it attached? Try turning it clockwise and see if it tightens up? If not then I guess it’s faulty.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Re: Petrol tank
The RIB I have now and the timber boat I had before, the fuel connection is and was on the top of the fuel tank. This is obviously to prevent gravity from allowing the fuel to get past a leaky connection and fill the hull with petrol.
Could it be possible you have the fuel tank up the wrong way. You also didn't mention if the tank was new or second hand.
Other problems may be: 1. The male and female connectors are not the same style and therefore won't seal. 2. Dirt in the connector holding the sealing components of the valve apart. 3. The connector is not pushed in far enough to seal.
However I still feel the most important point is, the fuel connection should be at the top of the tank.

Re: Petrol tank
Another point I thought of while I was emptying the dishwasher and that is, you have the wrong tank for your boat. If you advise what type of boat you have someone in the forum may be able to advise what brand and model of tank to buy.

Re: Petrol tank
Boat brand shouldn’t affect tank requirement for a SIB - any portable tank (preferably plastic) should be fine.

Re: Petrol tank
Hi, I have 2 of these. There is no way you have this upside down - who would place the tank with the filler cap on the deck?! One of mine had a bit of a weep around the seal of the connector, the connector screws into the tank. Try unscrewing it, cleaning and checking the seal, then replace it and make sure it's good and tight - but only by hand or you could strip the plastic thread.
Why am I here - I should be in my boat fishing!!

Sorry Warder 54 you will have to excuse the fact that people from different parts of the world use different descriptive terms.warder54 wrote: ↑16 Apr 2019, 07:56Hi, I have 2 of these. I said that the tank could be up the wrong way. Here where I live that does not mean "upside down," in fact when we want to say upside down we say "upside down."
I meant that the face that should be facing up, isn't.
Sorry again for the confusion.

Re: Petrol tank
I have the 12l version of this tank so I think I might be able to help.
The following is the correct orientation for the tank.
And these are wrong:
On a serious note, the tank outlet is a touch prone to leaking as it unscrews surprisingly easily. Gently turn it clockwise and see if the leaking stops.
