1999 2 Stoke 15 hp johnson flush

Post by James » 18 Aug 2015, 15:20

Hi

My 1999 Johnson 15hp 2 stroke engine has a way of attaching a hose pipe to flush out.
I need the part that screws in to the side of the engine which the hose pipe connects too.

Does anyone know where I can buy one? Sorry, I don't know what the part is called.

Thanks

James

I've come across a few different types James, can you remove the blank from it and hold say a 5p or such alongside it so we can get a better idea of the type?
Philpot has a 15hp Johnson, perhaps he's your man ?

There's been some discussion about these before and the pros/cons of using them, although not on here.

Personally I'd still use the muffs where possible as it cleans everything that's meant to be cleaned, and in the right direction i.e. not forcing water the wrong way down some channel. It also gives the impeller a chance to push any sand and grit out of the blades and flushes all the salt out of the surrounding areas of the impeller housing.

Also, you're less likely to damage the screw cap by not (un)screwing it repeatedly.

Of course if noise is an issue then the flush hole is ideal.

I see the convenience of not having to start the engine to flush it, but the hassle of screwing an adapter in instead counterbalances that in my eyes.

Just my opinion :)

Hi,

As its a small engine I would stick the business end in a bucket of water and run it up. Wheely bins work well :D saves messing about with flushing adapters etc etc

I forgot all about this thread lol.
I do have a feelie bin, but often I come back around 8pm and just can't be bothered to hook it all up.

One question, how do you get rid of the water in a wheelie bin? I installed a tap, so it's easy.
The main problem is my water looks like petrol/oil etc lol because I use a 2 stoke lol

I have a traditional style round dust bin with lid that I have specifically for flushing. It never gets emptied unless there's a reason to. It often gets topped up as I might have been a bit over excited while revving it in gear
If you're using your normal wheelie bin, you could use some washing up liquid to break the oil down, shut the lid, swill it around a bit then pour it down a drain. The amount of oil in there is less than an old car drips on a drive way but the washing up liquid will help to remove it from the bin and break it down.

Like Blootac says, fire in a bit of fairy liquid and that will help break it down and then drain it out.

DO NOT leave the fairy liquid in the flushing water thou, it will foam in the water system and wear the impeller out

I have a set of double ended muffs although to be quite honest they spray water all over the place so I bought a plastic dust bin which is kept full of water and just drop whichever engine in there to flush them out. The bin cost about £10 with a lid so you will ALWAYS be ready to run the engine and much quieter than muffs.
