Little advice please.
I have a Mariner 15Hp 2 stroke which I was going to lay tiller side down in the back of our family camper to transport and put the sib on the tow bar mounted bike rack. Trying to avoid complaints about the smell of fuel in the van while sleeping I have decided to switch things round and transport the motor on the bike rack, in order to get my son's bike on as well the motor would have to lay on its back tiller up with the engine elevated above the prop, weight is not the problem just physical size, would this cause a problem. Thanks

Re: Transporting 2 stroke
Sorry, I haven’t got any advice I can give, but I’d be interested to see if/how you get this to work. I played around with the same idea of putting my 2-stroke on a bike rack, but am currently putting the OB in a Ducks Back outboard bag in the back of the car.mspark wrote:Little advice please.

The bag is waterproof and keeps the OB from getting the car oily, but it still smells a bit, even when running the engine dry with the fuel line disconnected before transporting it.

Re: Transporting 2 stroke
I have a campervan and transport my SIB on a bike rack and engine under the rock n roll bed. I also transport my yam 8hp 2 stroke tiller handle down. I tried it on its back aka prop facing down.... Nightmare. Residual water in the exhaust / cooling system works it's way back in through the exhaust port into the cylinder ... Took 2 hours to get started. I did this on 4 occasions before I read the owners manual and read that it says not to transport the engine prop down for this exact reason...
To reduce smell in our campervan I run the outboard dry then drain the remaining fuel out the carb bow with some tissue under it to absorb the excess. Leave it outside for a bit with the cover off for any remaining fuel to evaporate. Seams to work. Maybe you could also stroke it in a outboard bag.
