I have found that water comes out from under the keel strip when I’m rolling the boat up. I can’t say as I have noticed if any gets into the boat, but I am eager to find out.
Glad you got there first, Chris - I get exactly the same but wasn't sure how to describe it!

If I stand the boat up on the domed ends of the tube (can't remember if there's a proper name for these!) whilst it's still fully inflated, water comes out in a fairly strong, fine jet for several minutes at the transom end of the keel strip. I've often meant to ask if anyone else gets this. I assume its water forced into the V shaped gap along the keel strip when planing. It doesn't seem to affect performance and like you I'm not aware of it getting inside the boat as I usually dry off any remaining from spray etc with a micro-fibre cloth before I stand the boat up and it doesn't seem to get wet again whilst this is happening. I first noticed it when then standing it up to wipe off the underside, it also explained why even after carefully drying the boat before packing it away I still used to get some water in the car or motorhome after transporting the boat home.

...moist crevice...
Hi Harrison, I kept my old T38 inflated on a trailer until recently and don't recall witnessing this particular weeping.

Like Chris and Roger I find water will dribble from the keel reinforcement after a session on the water, but I assumed they all did that. I was careful to tip the boat up to drain the area before winter, as I was storing the boat outside.

Due to my own negligence, combined with the forces of nature, I did find water in my boat a few times when the cover came slightly adrift in stormy weather. But then don't remember seeing any dripping from underneath, even though I left it with several inches of water for more than a few days (on more than one occasion, ahem  ).

As far as what you're seeing being a safety issue I would defer to someone who knows more about the effect of salt water on the sort of adhesive used to bond the floor halves. I can't see water weakening the bond, but if, over time, it did that would not be cool. Ripping through the keel of your boat while making progress in a lumpy sea could have particularly nasty consequences. :o

I wonder if this could be another ie vs ie2 issue?
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Thanks for all the replies chaps.

If I’m reading your replies right you’re mostly all seeing water percolating out from under the glued external keel joint strip and not from the triangular external void then! If so that’s interesting. Thanks.

Hey gratemaker,

Feel for you your T38 is not performing. Join the club...unfortunately. :no

However, I don’t feel the solution will be found in fitting a long shaft motor. No No No!

If it’s really that bad it won’t plane at all even after ensuring floor is running at max pressure, engine height and trim adjusted etc etc....then reject the damn thing.

PS; As an aside the long shaft ain’t gonna rip the transom off. No way....Honwaves have the meatiest transoms of all sibs...at last a plus point. :thumbsup

So, finally received a replacement T38 from Honda.

Purchased in April it’s only taken six months to achieve. Mostly due to the dealer, Ely Boat Chandlers, going into administration whilst allegedly dealing with the claim (not) and a dose of subsequent faffing on my part.

In July I approached Boatworld, our nearest Honwave dealer, who kindly agreed to pursue the claim on my behalf with Honda. By mutual agreement we decided to delay returning boat until October time. Dropped the old boat off with them end of October, and within a week Honda provided a replacement.

A big thank you to the guys at Boatworld who, as far as I can see, get nothing out of this except the hassle. :respect

Is the replacement any better?......Yes. :thumbsup

Hull/keel is definitely more symmetrical , not perfect, but much, much better. Not had it wet yet but nothing to suggest it won’t be anything other than ok.....even the wonky keel on the first one had no discernible negative handling effects anyways.

So, in respect of the time honoured forum tradition, all new sibs shall forthwith be inflated in the house. Well ok, it’s only in a spare bedroom and not the lounge, but hope this still counts.
