Hmmmm! let me have a think.

A full day out in the sib*...say £15 worth of stabilised unleaded against 90 quids worth of Aspen

* Double, triple or quadruple that for a rib.

Think you may be confusing ‘not heard of’ with ‘why the hell would I ever use that’

I’m Out :rofl

Very sarcastic answer and also a little naive of you. Even running a few litres through for winter storage is a good idea.

I see your point with regards to winter storage, but has @harrison points out at the volumes that most of the marine world use fuel in it is just not economical to run a fuel like Aspen.
I can see why it would be great in garden tools and small outboards used infrequently, but I think it is just not economical for those of us who use a lot of fuel.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Not sure why we have two threads running on Aspen fuels, although not surprisingly, both generated by the same person.

Far from being cavalier about good fuel management, I am actually more borderline OCD regarding boating fuel. A minor inconvenience if the car or lawnmower pack up but a potential disaster if the outboard dies.

We treat every tankful of fuel in season with Quicksilver Quickcare and try to use fresh fuel each time where possible...leftover fuel goes in the other half’s car, lawnmowers, genny’s etc. etc. The last tankful of the season is treated with Quicksilver Quickstore which is more suited for longer storage up to 12 months. We also use premium brand fuels purchased from busy garages with a high turnover of fuel from their tanks. All our efi motors have water separators in the fuel lines.

As a result we never have to run carbs dry or worry about residual fuel in lines, filters or high pressure injection systems. In fact would never attempt to run an efi system dry...No.No.No!

As stated in the other thread, adding stabiliser costs less than 2.5 pence per litre, so I can’t for the life of me see why I would ever consider using Aspen even at the end of the season.

Still call me naive??

No i dont sell it. But i think it is a great product and people should be aware that it exists.

I spoke with someone from yamaha yesterday and they do not recommend using it in their outboards just use any unleaded fuel and then if stored drain the fuel.

Are the honwave bellow pumps really not that good. I can hear a leak from the hose connection at the pump end when trying to get the pressure into the floor. Taking a long time!

I have the coleman recharchable pump to get the majority of the air in there which works well but trying to get the floor to 0.8 bar with the bellows is hard/long

First and last time we inflated with a foot/hand pump was about 20 years ago after eagerly unpacking and pumping up our first sib!...and that was pre high pressure air floors.

Trust me an electric pump is your friend! Topping off a hp air floor is a real pain with any foot or hand pump. Perhaps a slightly thicker washer on the adapter might address any air leaks.

The standard Honwave two stage foot pump is ok quality wise and we keep it on board, stored in the kit bag, strictly for emergencies only.

If you don’t fancy shelling out on one of the expensive and fragile 2 stage jobbies from Bravo and the like, then I reckon the cheaper low volume Itiwit (75l/m) or Sevylor (190l/m) pumps are well worth considering, especially for topping up. Can also be powered on board with a 12v 7ah battery.

In my opinion again, nobody should be running it without checking with the manufacturers of the mechanical devices.
I hadn’t realised it was the same stuff as I’ve carried, but with a little homework it turns out I shift the equivalent Fuel to this stuff at 27tons at a time. We call it ASF. It’s a very high octane fuel without any ethanol content, hence its long shelf life. Ethanol absorbs moisture at a ridiculous rate, Which is why your fuels go manky. Keep the fuels at a constant lower temperature, drain off any moisture and it’ll last a good while.
And no before anyone asks, I can’t get you any.. I’d get strung up ! :busted
