Just had a look at a 15HP efi Mariner...

Is the extra 5 horses worth the extra few hundred quid with a T38 or is 15 enough?

The 15 and 20’s are exactly the same weight, so yes.
The 15 will have virtually the same torque as the 20. The extra power of the 20 is only right at the top end where it can rev a bit higher. So perhaps only a knot or so faster. So cost wise a more difficult decision.

To be honest I’ve always gone 20 because of same weight. In reality the cheaper 15 may be better value as there is now so little performance difference.
