Re: Volaire 390 vs Honwave T38. The results
Hi Chris It handles the chop very well too. I think the writing us on the wall for the T3.8 Lots of choppy conditions with those triangular waves you describe around the West Coast of Scotland kicked up in the tide races. I have a knackered shoulder / neck so I always throttle back in the chop. I fi...

Re: Volaire 390 vs Honwave T38. The results
Chris it performs very well in a following seas - better than the T3.8. Douglas Wicox posted a video on West of Scotland Boating on Facebook a few days back of me in a following sea conditions. The big tubes stop it ploughing in at the bow as much as the T3.8. It has a long shaft transom cut down in...

Re: Excel Volaire RD 390 - Pictures and keel jumping
Yup B.Ps it is a good bit heavier. One of my mates who has a T3.8 tried lifting the Volaire 390 in it's bag and couldn't manage it. He takes his T3.8 on his caravan holidays and lifts it in the back of his 4x4. Weight not an issue for me as mine is trailered. All on our recent trip could see the Exe...

Re: Volaire 390 vs Honwave T38. The results
It's a heavy beast for sure. I've got the 420 Volaire variant - I'd say it's a trailered sib only - too heavy! However it's the most capable Sib I've ever come across so the weight could be considered as being worthwhile.

Re: Excel Volaire RD 390 - Pictures and keel jumping
Bigplumbs the Excel is far far, dryer ride than the Honwave. As a current owner of both Sibs I can say that with 100% confidence! The bigger much more buoyant tubes of the Excel give it the edge all round IMO!

Re: Brand New Honwave T38
In years gone by someone would have had your hand off for a T3.8 set up at that price
.
Gotta question where did honwave go wrong.....

Re: which boat /motor
Hey sonny, I'm back to stick my oar in, yet again ;-) Now we've established you're going open deck and generally 2 up then yes a 20hp motor is going to be more than adequate and safe. However, if funds allow, personally I think a 25/30 would be a better long term match for a 420. The 15/20hp motors...

Re: which boat /motor
:scratch As far as Ribs go you won't get much easier to launch single handed than a 4.2m Ocean Runner. It's by no means heavy at just over 100kg plus engine it will be tipping the scales around 250kg. On a well set up roller trailer it will be a breeze to launch and retrieve single handed. As mentio...

Re: which boat /motor
Yup S.R that's key for me too - being able to plod home when it turns to rat shit. In my opinion in a small rib / sib your gonna need to work with the conditions to get back to port safetly. That doesn't mean powering up to the max and blasting straight through oncoming waves at WOT. That's for the ...
