Re: Fitting rod holders

Can you tell me where you got your stake out pole from please? I've been after one for my kayak but can only see them available in the US? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There are a few videos on Utube with guys in the US saying how to make them. But I used some Fiberglass extruded rod which I ...

Re: Fishing from a small boat

I don't use a sea anchor (or drouge) on my frib but I use one a lot when fishing from my sup. I just pull it out the water using just one of its chords so it collapses. Being a sail maker I just make my own. They really are very useful and also quite a good safety device which could stop you ending ...

Re: Fitting rod holders

When you drill the holes they look fine from above but when you look into the tube they can be very close to the internal corners. In a way this can help stop the nut from turning but could be a problem on thicker walled tube. You could use self tapping screws or rivits. because I fish for common sk...

Re: Fitting rod holders

Hi Phil Sorry for the slow reply. I drilled holes in just one side of the bar then bolted the holders on. It is a bit fiddly getting the nut on inside the tube but not too hard. The bar takes part of the weight of the engine but once the engine clamps are done up tight it is a static weight ie you d...

Re: RNLI - Saving Lives At Sea

If I was out at sea and my engine packed up, would a life boat charge me to tow me back? What happens if something bad happens to a life guard while rescuing someone (lets say breaks their back). Do they get compensated in someway or do they just go we know the risks and accept the outcome? They mu...

Carefull what you wish for

All fishermen want to catch big fish and lots of them, it is in out nature. Yesterday I learnt you can get a bit more than you bargained for. I took the Frib out about 9.30, a lovely day but the fishing started slow. Not a bite until 12.00 on the lighter skate rod (50 lb braided line). 20 minutes of...

Re: A "tangle" of a day

It is one of the few times in the UK that all your tackle gets properly tested. You definitely need a but pad and it makes a big difference using a short "stand up" style boat rod as you can apply a lot more pressure than with a standard boat rod. While a most reels can catch a skate a lot will star...

Re: Fishing from a small boat

Ok, Standing to be corrected here are some common fish, where they live, what they eat and what they taste like Mackerel - All round the UK in the summer, can be at any depth but often near the surface, mackerel feathers or spinners will catch them quite tasty , they are a mini tuna so bbq quite wel...
