Re: wooden keel sib?

Thanks blootac, I dont think I will risk it especially as im inexperienced in the water anyway. The flooring would go in it just wouldn't have the V In the hull. Plus im only using a little british seagull engine on it, not sure how well its going to push it around as it is let alone with drag. Will...

Re: wooden keel sib?

thanks for the replies and advice. Its a definite no-no for using it as-is then! Yes the original keel is/was wood. 1" thick ply, and the depth is shaped to give the hull its V. it is shallower at the transom end and deeper at the bow end as expected. you are both sort of right Martin & paul ...

Re: wooden keel sib?

Yes thats right i did mention this on ribs.net a while ago and it was mentioned to use an inflatable keel. The main problem i have with this is that the floor panels arent used to stretch out the boat like on most sibs, the two piece wooden keel would apply the pressure from bow to transom and stret...

Hi All Im sure most of you have seen my previous 'help with project' post, but I thought I would but a separate one out asking if anyone out there has a sib with a wooden 2 piece keel that goes in before placing the floor boards in. I am hoping to get some measurements so I can build a replacement f...

blootac wrote: Yes there is a 4 MPH (not knott) limit on almost all canals (See the Canal and River Trust Page)
If you're making a wake then it's even slower.
I believe on the Ouse around York it's actually 6 MPH.
ah thanks blootac, apologies for the incorrect info. even slower then

Re: Help with project please

I think this looks like a good candidate for the way to go! the only slight issue being that the old wooden keel had a join in the middle that was shaped in a way that allowed each end to be inserted (at the bow and transom) and then pushed down into place stretching the boat out. I assume the floor...

Re: Help with project please

Thanks both,
I will look into it. With regards to an inflatable keel I have mentioned it before and was told that this could be tricky due to the lack of stringers? The wooden keel system didnt require any, but this is outside of my knowledge so im a bit lost there! Haha
