Re: Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
I'm about to start burning some bridges here. I'm gobsmacked at your support Martin for the petulant, childish and quite frankly belligerent attitudes of some recent posters. I initially put it down to the hot weather or maybe a bevvy or two too many but as it grew legs I was shocked by the vitrioli...

Re: Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
I have to support ChrisParish here. This casual meeting arose out of Chris expressing an interest in the Voltaire on the forum. Shortly after this I was arranging my VHF course with DMT for Sunday 21st. I contacted Chris to offer him the chance to try the boat while I was down there on either the 20...

Re: Volaire 390 vs Honwave T38. The results
I can understand the mixed feelings about black, it does look a bit 'Special Forces'. In my case, one look at the skipper soon dispels that myth. For me it was black or wait - and that wasn't going to happen. I love it now because 'hot tubes' or not - it does look cool. Seriously, I've not noticed i...

Re: Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
Not surprised your burning off oil as the crankcase is higher than the cylinder head in this orientation...what would you expect. Cut me a little slack here When I bought the motor as a total newbie, Mercury told me verbally and in print, that the motor could be transported face down - as advertise...

Re: Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
I wonder if you could make a sled to hold the engine the other way up (transom clamp down) as it would be if it was mounted on the back of the boat? I think the sled idea may have possibilities. It would then put the combustion chambers at the top. If I move the trim peg to 6, the clamp is at a use...

Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
Anybody out there with a Mercury 20 Efi or Mariner? One of the reasons for buying this engine was that it could be stored/transported vertically. By that I don’t mean standing up but with the tiller up and the prop down rather than on it’s side which makes for easy loading/unloading and takes up muc...

Excel Volaire 390 - Launch Wheels - Sorted
I’ve finally got my launch wheels sorted. Having collapsed on me once and now looking ready to give up again, I decided it was time to get them fixed. As harrison pointed out, the majority of them fail for two reasons, usually combined, The first is that the fixings are too close together to resist ...

Re: Holes in transom
Are the existing holes under where the Beachmaster plate will be mounted? If so, you’ll need to countersink the holes and use countersunk bolts and I would also suggest using ss countersunk lock washers (the ones with the toothed edge available on ebay). They are intended to be used against metal bu...

Re: Launch sites around Arisaig
Thanks gratemaker although sanity has prevailed and on good advice I’ve decided my previous plans were a little too adventurous, I’m still planning on going to Arisaig just not as far out, so still looking for somewhere to park, pitch and launch. Can you remember what the beach is like? Shallow and ...

Re: Excel Volaire RD 390 - Pictures and keel jumping
You raise an interesting point harrison and in essence, similar to the question from chris moody about cutting the webs. I’ve just assumed from the start they are somehow vital and that function dictates form i.e. they are the optimum shape and size and no more. I’m starting to think that might be a...
