Car Exterior Outboard carrier

Postby Cliff » 07 May 2018, 18:59

:LMT Started on the problem of carrying the outboard with a caravan in tow. There is no room in the back of the disco due to the LPG tank. It isn't finished yet, but I'm happy with the result so far :thumbsup . Materials used; bits from an old roof rack, a weightlifting bar and locking collars drilled and dropped into the rear bumper steel box, 2 heavy duty fence brackets, coach bolts and a piece of Oak. The idea is to load it at a low level and then raise with a winch and swing it into position. Everything is easily detachable and will only be used when towing caravan. The photos are pretty self explanatory.

love this, particularly the winch idea, ingenious. I transport our motor under the bed of our campervan and the boat on a bike rack on the tow bar. Really I want to put the motor out of the van too, so your bracket has given me food for thought. thank you for sharing. :)

Clever stuff Cliff :thumbsup

My dear friend Geoff calls this sort of thing "garden shed developments" (not wanting to offend, honestly) .... this ethos bode us well when we were stage rallying in the 70,80 and 90's with 3 championship wins :clappy ...... us on a budget, other competitors with deep pockets  yet we won ohyeh

Bring it on 8-)
:cheers

There's always a way Phil, If you need some help with it send me a photo of your roof rack and the back of the car, between us we may be able to knock something up. :chat

Thanks Cliff! That’s very kind of you to offer :).

I’m making do with an outboard bag at the moment, but may well take you up on that if I go in a different storage direction with the Landy in the future.
