How fast before your fishfinder stops working?

As the title says "How fast before your fishfinder stops working?" I can get to 6 knotts and it packs in, I've tried to place the transducer in different spots on the transom, high, low, left and right of the motor but still the same result. I know on boats they can speed along and it still works, so is this just a rib/sib thing due to the amount of turbulence they create? its been bugging me for a while now so next time out im going to put the transducer on a pole and try it at different spots all round the sib as we steam along, the front is out of the water most of the time so i guess the left or right side but still a pain to fashion any sort of mount due to lack of places to fix too

Also being the t32ie with the trim tab thingies its making it very hard to get a good setup!.

Yep.
Although it's the amount if air in the water that's the problem.
The solution it to find a spot with clean water flow.
Have you tried running the transducer a bit lower?
Should be ok at Sib speeds.

Yea tried it at a few depths, thought it would be low enough to be out the way of the air bubbles but alas still no joy, its fine up to 6 notts then loses the bottom, guess I will just have to love with it!! I can see a bigger rib with more mounting options on the horizon soon though!

As Andy has said it's difficult on a sib due to water movement around the hull, bubbles and boat rising/falling during operation.
Ones that work at speed are invariably the 'through the hull' type which ain't gonna happen on your sib unfortunately.
I had the same problem with a trim tab sib so tried side mounting with little success

Thanks Paul, yea I think im just gonna have to live with it until I can get a hull it will work through.....

I had all sorts of problems getting the transducer to work at speed. It's a Lowrance Totalscan and it's quite big.



the best position I've come up with is this, is actually under the boat.



It works well at speed, even in sidescan, but is prone to coming loose, more work on the design is needed before spring.

Thanks Stray, I had not considered putting it under the boat like that, I will give it a go next time out and see!.
