Newbie from East Yorkshire

Post by Tinbox » 08 Nov 2017, 13:34

Hi Everyone,

My first post just to introduce myself. I am very new to boat ownership and so I'm sure I have a lot to learn and no doubt I will have already made a few mistakes. My main purpose for purchasing a SIB is to get me out on the water fishing, I have fished from the shore for sometime but I now think it's time to get on the water. Not having a great deal to invest in a SIB I looked around for what seemed to offer value for money. In short I bought an Aquaparx 330 and a Hangkai 3.6hp outboard. I purchased the solid floor and inflatable keel kit for the SIB as I understand this assists with stability and helps performance when out at sea. I have spent the last month or so getting myself sorted out with safety equipment, and I think I'm now ready to venture out on my first trip. I actually live on the coast but being new to this I'm looking for advice on somewhere that offers an easy launch site and relatively sheltered waters for my initial outing. Looking forward to exchanging views and gaining advice from other members.

ello and welcome.

if i were you i'd look to find an inland waterway like the Ouse in york. it's calm, easy and a great spot to get used to the Sib and engine. plus if it conks out you can row ashore with no real tide or wind. for a 1st foray out i personally would not advise going offshore straight off the bat.

launching is easy at acaster malbis or bishopthorpe with loads of free parking. i'm over there alot so id be happy to help you too.

you can do a spot of fishing to get used to how that'll work too.

get the trial and error done in a safe environment will make your time much more fun and less stressful.

Thanks for that info. I wasn't sure if I would need any permission to use the SIB on inland waterways

Hi tinbox & welcome, not sure about a 3.6hp on the sea going against tide & wind, sounds ok for rivers & sheltered areas.

Hi,
This is all good advice and thanks for offering it.
As suggested above I think I need to spend sometime on an inland waterway to get the feel of my outfit. When I do eventually head for the sea I reckon it will have to be a day when it's like a mill pond

Hi mate and welcome to the forum. :welcome As others have stated. Get out on inland waters to start with and I don't recommend using it on tidal waters with such a small engine until you find out its capabilities.i think you will find your going to need a bigger engine for coastal boating , but enjoy it and happy boating

Hi and :welcome , ask away and most if not all your answers will be in here somewhere!! Enjoy your new boat, I concur with the advice on previous posts too. You have started the same as me, shore angler to small boat angler and I bet it won't be long before you'll want a bigger boat and engine. :drive :thumbsup
