Whenever I replace my lifejacket I always test it prior to first use. I don't want to find out it's faulty when I am bobbing around in the freezing cold ocean.
So I opened up the jacket, removed the gas cylinder and auto firing capsule, and then inflated it with my foot pump
Over 12 hours later and it's still inflated
Then it's time to deflate, refit the gas cylinder and auto firing capsule, and repack the jacket

Re: New lifejacket tested
I bought some second hand crewsaver lifejackets off ebay and thought it would be best to test them too I've just inflated them manually through the straw and we will see how they are in 24 hrs

Re: New lifejacket tested
Matt its well worth checking it on a regular basis as one day it may save your life. I am happy to show you exactly how to check it if we meet up on a "cruise in company" over the winter.

Re: New lifejacket tested
Matt,
Its easy to check your life jacket.
Just place it over your head, attach it around your waste then simply step off the wrong side of your boat
All joking aside if you've never had a life jacket deploy, it's quite an experience....

Re: New lifejacket tested
I think Chris has a new Spinlock RYA deck vest, though his appears very similar to these...
