The joys of a 2 stoke, it loves any position I put it in :-)

That's really helpful, thanks Martin. Can see what you mean now. Clever system with the shelf, but sounds like a brutal lift to get the OB up there crouching down! Was thinking the shelf was fitting in the metal runner, but, as you say, it's on top of that.

Given yours is a 375 F-RIB and 5cm deeper, it looks like I might just be able to fit a 360 under a flat tonneau cover. As James say, it's so tight I imagine I'd have a hard time with a roller shutter, but I'm thinking a tonneau style tilting hard top that sits on top of the truck bed might work and will probably be so snug it would stop the packed boat rolling around.

I guess I could still just go for a full hard top and that may be more flexible chucking everything in. I do like the classic pickup profile though and the idea of being able to jump in the trunk without crouching down too much. I've been looking at bike racks that can be mounted on a flat cover which is pretty neat + I think the Navara is a bit less of a beast to drive visibility wise without the full hardtop.

I definitely see the benefit of keeping everything out of the cab James. I don't smoke, but am not a big fan of the petrol fumes I get from the tank, engine etc. in the car currently + the boat leaked through my tarp and made my car carpet wet last weekend, which i wouldn't have to worry about with a truck.

I like the idea of being able to leave everything in the truck for a few days or more too. I left the boat and OB down on the south coast again this weekend because I didn't want the hassle of unpacking late the other end. Next time I get the boat out in the south coast (won't be next weekend, as I have a wedding), I'll try and take the boat along to view a Navara with a tonneau-style flat cover to see if it fits. If not, I guess I'll need to look for one with a hard top...

Thanks again for all the help .

That almost looks as big as the storage capacity of my garage .

Here you go Phil, other than the fuel tank the truck is fully loaded.

It's not pretty, but serves the purpose

Alternative choice to a SUV or a van would be a larger 4x4. I get my 460S plus two outboards, sails, mast, rudder, petrol and weekend bags in my Volvo XC90. Plenty of them around and quite refined - Jeremy Clarkson loves his!

Nice one, thanks for that James! Hope you enjoyed the trip to the IOW that you were packing for.

Out of interest, could you fit your Johnny where it is but on its side (instead of its front) if you wanted to?

By my measurements, there's 60cm of truck bed left after the 90cm width of a 360 stored between the wheel arches, which I think is enough space.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks for the photo DrHair. Good to see how an alt option might work and how easily everything fits in your volvo. I remember reading Clarkson singing the XC90's praises in one of his books .

After my packed up FRIB made my estate carpet wet last weekend, I'm thinking I may well benefit from the the separate truck bed setup of a truck that i don't care so much about .
