Newbie

Postby Redron » 18 Jan 2018, 11:49

Hello from a cold, wet and snowy Isle of Skye.
I am a member of a motorcycle forum and a Homebrew forum, both of which are highly informative and very friendly, hoping to find the same here.
I am now on the hunt for my first SIB which will be used for fishing the sheltered sea Lochs close to my home, so watch out for the inevitable ‘which SIB’ post....

Hi mate and welcome to the forum :welcome from a dull grey wet Oban, we are gaining quite a few members from Scotland :cheers ,

I have visited Skye numerous times, whilst it’s a lovely placeI don’t envy your weather  it’s bad enough down ere,
On the sib question, it will all depend on your needs and budget, like how many people are going out , how far of shore you plan on going, transportation, are you going to trailer it, storeage at home, etc

Just fire away with your questions and folk will try and answer best they can

Hi Redron. You will find a massive amount of SIB related knowledge on this forum. If you post up your requirements (budget, number of people aboard, type of use, how you propose to transport it to and from the launch site, etc) the guys on here will point you in the right direction. I've learnt loads about SIBs from the guys on here.

Hi Redron & welcome, everyone on here is so easy going & are always ready to help out, I joined last year having no knowledge before hand, I looked through the archive stuff & learned so much that I’m confident on knowing what I need to be able to go out on my own into open water(providing its calm) & have an enjoyable day messing about & catching the fish that shore anglers don’t get any more so good luck on your new venture.

Hi Redron, welcome aboard. You've definitely come to the right place for helpful, friendly advice and a bit of banter.

I've visited most of Skye many times over the years, using both of the ferries and the bridge. I left a pair of pyjama bottoms in a hotel in Edinbane about 40 years ago, keep meaning to go back and pick them up. Might not fit me now though . . .

Not had the boat there yet though, or the motorhome, so still much to experience, look forward to maybe meeting up with you one day.

If you ever venture over to the east coast give me a shout, I spend most of the summer in Fife and go out on the Firth of Forth whenever tide and weather suits.

:cheers
cheers
Roger
