Thanks Si,
I'm on the East Coast at Withernsea, but York is only an hour or so away so getting there is not a problem. We occasionally stay at a campsite on Bishopthorpe Road with our motorhome. Due to work commitments I only get every other weekend off, but if your happy for me to send you a PM when I'm looking at going that would be great. Thank you

Hi mate near saxilby burton waters is where you want to go it's got a good slipway you pay for the slip and the canal and river trust fee for the day about £20 last time I went car park adjacent, chandlery on site and a pub for a meal, turn left go up to Lincoln and right to west stock with two decent journeys ideal for your set up and expeariance I ran my engine in there spot on.Tinbox wrote:A big thank you to everyone who has made contact so far. I'm not sure if I should start a new thread in a different forum with this next bit, but I'll run it past you here and please let me know if I'm in the wrong section.
Taking on board all the advice has caused me to come at 'getting started' with my new outfit from a completely different angle. I'm now looking at starting on an inland waterway and as I have relatives who live virtually next door to the Fossdyke Navigation in Saxilby Lincolnshire I thought this maybe a good place to try my first launch and practice with the outfit. Has anyone used the Fossdyke navigation and what are your thoughts on it as a starting point.
I've been on the Rivers & Canals Trust web page and I would need a permit but that can all be done online. Thanks again to everyone who's been in contact and I welcome your thoughts on the above.
Just a side if you do go 15 hp it's a different ball gave on the plane at speed and I would only practise in a large area as mentioned the lakes is a good place.
Redcar is good to with scars running at 45 degrees to shore lots of crab and lobster some good fishing off there to ( scars are reefs for info) on calm days at low tide the scars form a harbour to play in.
Fisherman land thier catch on the beach so if the big fish gets away you can buy one to save face
Cheers

Re: Newbie from East Yorkshire
Thanks Jeff I know Burton Waters and I think I was in the pub you mentioned a couple of weeks ago when we visited our daughter. I think a bigger motor will be required but as everyone has suggested I'm going to be better prepared and live longer if I start on inland stuff with my current setup and get comfortable with it. Thanks again
