New member Midlands

Postby pritch » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:00 am

Hi all,
I'm just about to buy a SIB and I found this web site after doing some searching.
I'm really enjoying the site and there's some great advise on here and some great threads- One in particular was ' Into the Wilderness' which had me literally dribbling onto my laptop keyboard.
You all seem a friendly lot so i hope you don't mind me asking lots of questions, which will come very soon. :)
I live in South Staffordshire and will be doing most of my boating in Wales ,mostly Aberdovey.
I'm actually going to buy a sib now and i'm about to start the 6hr round trip to fetch it. The hardest bit will be trying to put it in the garage without my wife spotting me :D (she thinks i'm going fishing)
All the best

Hi Steve and :welcome

Be interested to hear what you've bought (and if you sneak it back into the garage)!

Aberdovey is a nice part of the world. Barmouth would be good too, and if you go camping, what about Shell Island?

Hope you have some great adventures!

Thanks for the warm welcome.
It's been quite a stressful day having to travel to the Scottish boarder and back but all is good.
My budget is very tight so I can't really afford the best kit just yet but this gets me afloat so I'm more than happy:)
The RIB is the Bison 390.It's like new and only been used twice so for£400 I was more than happy.
I wasn't sure about the 15hp Yamaha outboard because it looks quite old and tatty but it seems all good under the cover and runs a treat in the wheelie bin so at £400 I decided to take it. I'm not sure what you guys think.. should i sell her and buy something a little newer? Is she too old and likely to break down?
The seller also brought along his 3hp Evinrude auxiliary engine for me to have a look at. I couldn't believe how new she looked under the hood ( see photo) for her age. He said it's always been used as an auxiliary outboard so at £150 I decided to take it.
For another £60 I also got a Eagle fish finder, Rule high speed pump , plastic 12 ltr fuel track with connectors and priming bulb , two anchors with rope and a life jacket so I don't think I did too bad.
The picture with the white cover are where my outboards are hiding. The Rib is hiding behind the big mirror. I will tell her eventually but I need to do it gradually while topping up her wine glass and feeding her strawberries.
Ps. Sorry about some pictures being side on. I'll try and sort it out for the next time I post.
