Thanks for the comments lads;and i must say glad to hear I'm not alone with the waders ;i think a belt would be a good idea and possibly a flotation jacket as well as life jacket of coarse

The only issue I see is getting out of the water. You are going to have to remove the waders whilst still in the water, as I would imagine even walking up a slipway would be almost impossible while wearing waders full of water, let alone climbing into a boat or up a river bank.

I'd be wanting to have a practice at ditching the waders while in the water with some help at hand before having to do it for real.

Cut off tracki bottoms, neoprene merrel sandals or wetsuit boots if it cold, t shirt and a thermal buffalo type top, neoprene gloves and a decent set of water proofs and a LJ.....tis all you need, all thin and warm and all light weight

I’m a huge fan of waders. They’re cheap, cheerful and work perfect for me.
When it’s a decent day I still tend to launch with waders on and then kick them off once in the boat.
The argument over whether they are they safe or not is a difficult one, I agree with Andy - the initial shock of hitting the cold water is going to be the main thing to overcome.

I don’t ware a belt with my waders, i just pull them up to my waste and fold them over..
I do use a hammer lifejacket at all times now (upgraded from manual)

Jeez. You guys are brave. :)
Full steamer wetsuit for me if warm-ish (not that often on North East coast) or drysuit when cold - toasty.
Usually in and out water so wetsuit and buoyancy aid (impact vest) preferred. If staying in boat and cold, dry suit with 190n auto life jacket.

Most of the sibs are pretty dry boats, the fribs are remarkably dry even in heavy seas, I have a flotation suit but it’s never seen light of day yet as my waders and BR1 do the job superbly :thumbsup

Must say Martin i like my waders too ;usually pretty cold in scotland lol;when you say flotation suit do you mean the ones for fishing or a proper survival suit with boots attached? I am thinking of getting a fishing type jacket for warmth and extra bouyancy

It's an all in one flotation suit (without feet...)
Very warm :thumbsup

A video here of some chap testing out his new one
Fladen suit but the same thing....

I've tried it on for fit, its brilliant, but never felt the need for use yet. The waders and BR1 have always done me proud.
