Well the test in the drum didn't prove anything,the marks are still there so hopefully get out on the sea through the week test it properly. If its not the prop then iam stumped maybe a trip to the experts.

I wouldn't think running up in a drum would create enough torque, it's not trying to push anything along,

But is the engine racing or bogging down?
If it's racing then yes this would defiantly point to a spun hub.
If it's bogging down under load then it could be a fuel problem
(lack of fuel)
fuel pump, filter, fuel bulb, fuel hose breaking down inside, incorrect carb float height?
Could also be flooding on main jet, but i doubt that???

It may also be an ignition timing issue?

Will try hopefully tomorrow evening check if any prop slippage. The engine is 2008 with about 10hrs use its been sat in storage for years with the odd trip then brought back into use 2016 for a couple of trips. Been told that if not used for a long time the rubber bush in prop can go dry and shrink and would been prone to slippage,so worth a shot. Will try giving it choke when struggling might help shed light on fuel problems?.

I'd be taking the carb off to have a nosey inside before trying on the water, could be just some crap in the system, even if it's all clean you know you've done the basics, like Andy states it could be a fuel line breaking down from age and old fuel in the lines,

Cheap / old fuel lines can swell up inside restricting the fuel flow.
Carbs are pretty simple to dismantle if you do it slowly and take note of what goes where.
Any screws you remove other than the bottom float chamber could easily affect the running of the outboard so if you remove or alter anything make sure you count the amount of turns out and make a note to assist an easier set up after rebuilding.
As said, the usual case is sh!t / water in the jets or an incorrectly adjusted float valve.

As said fuel hose can disintegrate internally because of the higher ethanol content in fuel these days.
Here is Neil H fuel line we opened up last year when his OB wasn't performing correctly.
His hose was made by Mercury and the inner lining had failed.

Thankyou all for the ideals. I took her out again tonight after I marked the prop with a center punch but no slippage shown. Just myself and the fuel tank this time ,previous times I've had fishing gear anchor food drink etc etc total of around 40kilo all up front. Felt a fair difference the bow lifted straight up and shifted quicker but iam not convinced it's right or am I expecting to much. Was in the local rivers so didn't like to open it up for long. It does seem sensitive to where iam in the boat. I feel I need someone who is used to these sibs to take it for a blast and say either something is not right or its fine ,that's how it should be . The whinning noise is also bugging me my be linked to the issue. Will check the fuel lines but the boat and tank etc is all new 2013

hi all,hopefully will have chance to get out on the water tomorrow [never enough play time] . Going to check pressure of floor after been on the water for a while and i also have access to my mates fuel line to try. I will take GPS to monitor speed. My question is what speed should i be achieving on my own,15 mph ,20 mph ?. Will be in calm estuary around slack high tide. Got a week off soon so hopefully get things running smooth.
