You need a winter hobby, I do a lot of rock edge fishing at this time of year. It gets me out of the house and keeps me fit, climbing up and down the cliffs.

I did Portsmouth to Lymington for lunch, and then back again yesterday. Yes the temperatures are low, but with the right clothing it's fine

Here is a short video clip from yesterday

Visibility wasn't great, hence running with nav lights on. You can just see the other boat that was with us a couple of hundred metres behind us.

Hi Pugwash, I am with Chris... with the right clothes you don't feel the cold (or the rain).

An alternative, if you feel the winter cold too much while sitting in a SIB/small RIB, is to take up kayaking. That will keep you warm. We were out on Sunday and are heading out again tomorrow. If you like the sea there is no need to stop in the winter if you have the right kit and boat. The winter scenery can be amazing, especially with snow on the mountains. :)

We saw porpoises, baby common seals, an otter, eider ducks, razorbills, guillemots etc., we even saw a lonely gannet which either had not flown south with the others at the end of last summer or has arrived early!
