Howdy

Post by perfor8 » 04 Jun 2018, 20:55

Howdy, thanks for letting me hang out; I've already learned a lot.

I'm on a 68' sailboat, "Saga" with my wife and 3 youngest children (teenagers). My 2 oldest children are on their own but join us occasionally making 7 on board.

I'm looking at the F-RIB 430 as a new tender/dinghy and the new Yamaha F25 outboard to power it. Thoughts?

Welcome.

68 foot, wow that's a big sailing yacht. I used to have a tiny 26 foot, 4 berth one.

Will the tender / dinghy be stored on davits, in a locker, or in a tender garage (probably unlikely to have a garage on a sailing yacht)?

Perfor8 , love the handle 😂
Welcome aboard fribs & sibs forum.

The Frib 430 is a beast of a boat, I’ve had 5 up in my Frib 375 and I considered it full, the 430 should suit you well if you’ll occasionally be carrying 7 ashore.

We’re still a little short on feedback for the 430 but if it matches the other Frib range I’m sure it’ll be just fine.

Be sure to keep us updated if you make the purchase 👍🏻

Yeah, I guess that is a big boat. She's 34 years old, and I spent the last year doing a refit. I've had a lot of fun on 26' boats too.

The plan is to use the stern davits for daily storage on relatively calm water, and strap the tender on deck, deflated, for blue water passages. I may stuff it in the forepeak through a hatch, but we'll have to see how much hassle that is. That's one reason I'm looking at the F-RIB, I dont want to have to work around an entire boat on deck. I could go with a SIB, but the F-RIB seems to offer the best of both worlds, compact stowage but when deployed you get the large size and substantial hull.

Before I discovered the F-RIB, I was seriously considering the porta-bote...

A fellow Texan! Howdy Partner! Wherabouts your homestead?

Might've come across you on our excursions. We frequent Port Aransas, Canyon Lakes and LBJ.
Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

Well, I'm originally from NE Oklahoma, so I hope we can still be friends :D . After retirement, we based out of Kemah for the boat, although I took it to Ft. Lauderdale for the refit.

Yeah, perfor8 is a relic of my firearms days, but I thought it was appropriate for this forum, in an ironic way.

I'll be in an F-RIB dealer Wednesday. I doubt they have the 430 sitting around but I'll probably order one if I can't find a reason not to.

We're originally from Missouri ("you-guys", not "y'all"), but thanks to the recession we had to move, so don't hold it against us either... :D
