375 or 430 ?

Hello !

I'm a new member, considering an F-RIB for a family boat for 2-3 man inshore fishing, and family trips to islands and hidden beaches around the IOM.

I'm not sure what to go for - the 375 or the 430. The 375 has the flat floor and would be a little easier to move around, but doesn't have the same interior space. I've not seen one in the flesh and don't have a local dealer anywhere near me that isn't a 4 hour ferry ride away. I was thinking about the Suzuki 20 motor.

You guys have a wealth of experience and I was wondering if you could give me some advice - would the 375 be big enough, or should I go for the 430 ?

I don’t have a F-rib so not ideally suited to give you the best answers, the F-ribs are great boats, a few members have the 375 so should be able to help, I’ve been out with Martin who has a 375 and I would say it’s a very roomy boat and plenty big eneough for 2 guys and fishing gear, not sure about 3 though,

Don’t know about the 430 as I’m not sure if anybody on the forum has one, there’s is one guy who has the sailing version who might be able to offer his ideas

Welcome!

Had a 460 SIB. The bigger the better...if you can manage it somehow. We had a family of 5 so plenty of helpers. Took it out by myself or just my young boy and I which was only possible because I had it on a trailer.

With just my son and I fishing, we still liked the extra room and sturdiness.
Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

The f-rib is indeed a fine craft, I have the 375 and it’s perfect for me, the mrs & the 7yr old daughter.
As Paul B says, we’ve been out fishing on mine on several occasions and it’s plenty big enough for that. 3-4 adults and it starts getting full as I’ve always plenty of safety gear, food/drink & clothing with me.

The Frib 375 no longer has the flat floor, that was a previous version with a double skin - i believe that craft is no longer in production.
The 375 that is available today is a single skin as the other Fribs.

Looks like the 430 may be the way to go.

Do you guys have any wisdom/tips on moving outboards around in the back of a vehicle ?

Hi & welcome to the forum,
depends on what sort of vehicle you have, we've covered just about everything on here from cars, estates , pickups to trailers. I've got an estate & find it's not too bad now that i've made a dolley with wheels on for moving the engine & it just slides in on it's wheels.

I've had my FRIB for 4 years or so now and love it so please don't take my following comments as being negative :no
Please think about your 'needs' and then weigh them up about the practicality of use :idea: ......... by that I mean don't make the mistake of thinking you'll always have 'crew' around to help you with the lifting, setting up, launching and packing away as I and many others have ..... family/friends can and will let you down when their novelty factor wears off :( .....this applies to any folding or solid boat unfortunately :thud
From your comments the 430 does appear to fit your 'needs' but be aware of its 'dead weight' of 68kg, its folded diamentions of 1150x1150x500 for transportation/handling purposes :idea: ... the Suzuki 20hp at 44kg will feel positively small and light in comparison :|
If you're not guaranteed having 'crew' present at all times then perhaps a lighter/smaller option might suit your 'needs' the majority of the time :|
Without knowing the vehicle you're using to transport it in, how strong and fit you are I'm perhaps doing you an injustice but I felt the need to comment before you pull the trigger :scratch
If you do go ahead I'm sure you'll be pleased as the folding rib is a fantastic bit of kit :D

Hi Rasputin,

Welcome to the forum.

The lifting bag I talk about in the below link has made moving my outboard a lot easier + it keeps the car interior clean. It’ll fit up to a 15hp 2-stroke, which gets my 360 F-RIB up to 22 knots with two blokes in it.

The 360 has plenty of room for two people fishing. It’ll fit 4 and has a load capacity of something like 700kg, however things would be tight trying to fish with more than two. The issue would be that you’d need another seat for a third fisher to have enough space to swing a rod, so the 430 would be the way to go imo if that’s your intended use.

However, I couldn’t agree more with the plenty of good advice said already about the size of boat and ease of handling. The best thing for me about the F-RIB is that you can drive off to new places with it folded in the back of the car and without using a trailer. The 360 is a brute to lift single-handed. I’m sure the bigger options are significantly harder, but less of an issue if you’re always going to have a mate or two to help lift and launch.
