Well worth it imo..
I think the horrible last speedboat incident that hit the news has really brought the Lifejacket subject to light.
Straps are important, but also create their own issues. I'm currently looking out for a suitable knife or splice blade to fit to all mine.

I got this one, which fits into a dedicated pocket with retaining cord on my Crewsaver Ergofit lifejacket, but the safety knife also came with a holster for attachment to others:

Not cheap but it could save your life . . .

Might sound daft, but is it a marine stainless blade ?

Good point, Martin. Their spec (which I've reproduced below) doesn't give the blade material but if it isn't marine grade I'd suggest it would be deemed not fit for purpose.

Mine hasn't rusted yet . . .

The ErgoFit Safety Knife is designed to be safe to carry with you at all times on the water, but highly effective should you need to cut through ropes in an emergency. Highly visible, it is lightweight and supplied in a slim, durable casing that can be attached your lifejacket.

Safety blade for safe stowing
Constructed from durable nylon plastic
Ergonomically designed for fast release cut
Carry pouch included for attachment to lifejacket

I thought it might also be useful to cut the line should I ever hook any sea creature too strong to land in my wee SIB. :fishing

Incidentally, I hadn't thought about issues relating to crotch straps getting caught up on anything, that's certainly worth being made aware of.
I guess making sure the straps are adjusted to be a fairly snug fit should help reduce the risk,
as long as it's not tight enough to raise your voice a few octaves . . . :banana dance

Thanks for the info on the cutter Roger, that's another item on my must have list sorted !!! :cheers
Yeh, the old straps scenario :whistle ... I have mine adjusted enough to let me sit down with my waders on, there is a little slack, but god forbid the unforeseen should happen, I would hope I can either release the quick snap or cut the strap and float away to safety... Uphill :? :?
