SafeTrx now replaces the CG66 scheme

Post by chris moody » 04 Jul 2018, 08:31

The RYA SafeTrx app has now replaced the Coastguard CG66 scheme. I would urge everyone to download the app and fill out your vessel details.
.
.

If apps aren't your thing, then you can register your vessel at https://safetrx.rya.org.uk/login.html but you will not get the real time logging of your passage (which the Coastguard will access if your shoreside contact reports you as missing to find your exact last known position).

Thanks for the link, looks like a great backup to my VHF-DSC hand held.
Filled it out as best I can but there's not a SIB category, so am I to pretend to be a RIB with a polyester chined hull???
cheers
Roger

Last Friday I decided to use the Safetrx app on a passage. One great new feature was that my shore side contacts received a text with a link in it enabling them to track our position pretty much in real time. The same tracking info is stored on the RYA's servers, and is accessible by the coastguard, if I or my shore side contacts had dialed 999 or put out a mayday on ch16. I'll post the web link so you can see what it's like.

Been using this a while now and it's good. They even sent an email asking if I'd finished my passage 3 days later and I was in London. I'd forgotten to turn it off. Oops

It is a great additional safety aid, I'm going to start using it more frequently.
