PLB's

Post by chris moody » 05 May 2018, 19:31

Just bought a pair of PLB's to supliment the DSC handheld VHF's.

Here is a picture of one of the PLB's with a VHF, they are tiny.

Not much information about PLBs on here - Do many members use them?

Any thoughts on the Mcmurdo Fastfind 220 V2 PLB with ReturnLink?

Yeah, I carry one, thankfully not used in anger yet. Like Chris above have the tiny Ocean Signal PLB1.
Don’t think there’s much between the Mcmurdo/Ocean Rescue in terms of size/effectiveness tbh. However, the latest Mcmurdo with the Galileo ReturnLink feature would be my choice at the moment. Nice to have that little blue flashing light confirming signal received. :thumbsup

The reassurance of the return link would be comforting if you are awaiting rescue. Could be the difference between hanging on or giving in.

thanks @warder54 ,,, i know there are plenty instock at various places but i have been trying to get the mcmurdo fast find with " return link " as advertised by force four chandlers but showing out of stock . well after some phone calls to various stockists it appears nobody has seen them because they hav,nt got approval by the relevant body(s) and may well never get it . i just liked the idea of knowing that your call for help (return link) flashing blue light had been picked up . can anyone throw any more light on this?

thanks @Sarah for the offer but the man at cactus navigation said he spoke to someone at mcmurdo and they are not available yet . i dont want to pre order and then be left for months waiting for something that may never turn up . so i think for now i will give it another month and if they are still not available plump for an alternative. thanks again

No worries, I thought they were due to come out last year so intrigued by your info about whether they can get approval. I have a trade contact at Orolia so might do some digging for my own purposes. I agree I wouldn't want to be waiting on pre order once I was able to get out boating.
