Would you prefer to have a locked page for mmsi numbers and other contact info ???

I would never put my mmsi number on, even if the page was locked out of public view

MMSI etc, Locked Page Poll

Post by Martin » 23 Aug 2018, 08:46

Occassionally the subject of privacy pops up in threads, A few folk have mentioned locking down wider parts of the forum to members only, for now.. lets talk about the mmsi number or possibly even other contact info.
F-RibsAndSibs.Com.... :whistle
Because it's a big old WWworld out there

I have no issue with my MMSI number being available as it’s of no use to you if I’m not out on the water as the radio is turned off! It shouldn’t be possible to get any personal information from the MMSI number as Ofcom are governed by the GDPR laws.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

I don't have any problem putting my MMSI on the forum profile which is viewable by the public, for the reasons ChrisParish mentioned above, but wouldn't put my mobile there.
Thinking about it after ticking the box above, I'm not even actually 100% sure about putting my mobile on a list accessible by ALL members of the forum.
The process used for past meets e.g. WWAs seemed to work OK, where a closed thread was formed which was accessible only by members of the group attending and where a list of mobile contact numbers was posted, visible only to those participating.
cheers
Roger

If I wanted a member to have my phone number I would give it to them. If I needed someone else's number I would ask them. Both eliminates the need to be shown in my profile. As Chris Moody says my mmsi is of no use unless we are out on the water.
I'm not really a Hobbit, just look like one. Real name is "Andy".
