Hello all,

New sign up here from Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, furthest point from the sea in the UK I believe, but we do have the Thames nearby which is where I intend to start using my SIB.

I've bought a secondhand (apparently lightly used) Zodiac Cadet Fastroller Acti-V 2.85 with a Mariner 4hp 4 stroke. Very much looking forward to getting out on the river this weekend and am enjoying reading all the info on here.

Cheers

Dave

Cheers for the welcome guys, yes my daughter loves being on the water, started off kayaking last year at the age of 4 and is quite happy pootling along looking at the nature on the river. She's quite excited to be trying an "electric boat" as she kept calling it :) Stuck the outboard in a wheelie bin to test it out last weekend and she was pretty impressed.

Maiden voyage on Sunday on the river near Henley with my pal Tom who's just got himself a Honwave, really looking forward to it.

Hi Dave and :welcome

Your Zodiac looks great - very classy looking!

Hope the maiden voyage goes well - your daughter looks very comfortable in the boat. Take it she's captain of the boat? :thumbsup

:cheers

Thanks Steve, and yes, currently going by the name of 'Little Boss', she might need a new boating title if she's into it :D

Welcome to the forum chap
That's a nice looking boat you have there and I'd imagine a nice quiet engine too :-)

Let us know how you get on with the first trip

Well it was quite uneventful (in a good way). Nice and warm, the Zodiac inflated nicely using a Bravo BTP pump and the engine started after a few pulls. At tickover and just above it is nice and quiet, however it sounded a bit harsh at higher revs, with two adults on board I think it was struggling a bit to get any speed, so just pootling along will be the order of the day I think. Was nice to be out catching the late afternoon sun and watching all the Regatta traffic, we went from Medmenham up to Hambleden Lock and then back down to Hurley, about two and a half hours overall.

I wanted to avoid project creep for as long as possible but would really like a small trailer I think. Leaving the water at 7pm it would have been nice to just load up with the boat inflated and put the outboard in the boot rather than wrestling with the whole deflation process. So if anyone has or knows anyone with something suitable and not too far from Bucks then please give me a shout :)

Great news you enjoyed your small trip out, unfortunately with a 4 hp engine and 2 adults it's never going to make great speed,
I always trailer my sib, much easier and very quick to get on and off the water,
