River Tay - Sunday 11th March - Broughty Ferry to Perth

Post by Steve » 12 Mar 2018, 10:45

It was a wee bit chilly, but what a day: the right tides, flat seas, fair winds and the sun even made an appearance (briefly)! Thanks to Mike for suggesting this trip!!!

Mike - F-rib 360 + (new) Tohatsu 20
Ross - Mercury Ocean Runner 340 + Yamaha 30
Steve & Fiona - Honwave T38 + Suzuki 20

Looks like you had a great time, guys and gals - I'm well jell!

I haven't got the Honwave up with me this trip, being a fair weather skipper it's still too bloomin' cold for me. However I was gonna come across to the Ferry and see you's off, but over this end of Fife it was very thick fog yesterday morning, I couldn't even see the Forth which is only a few hundred yards from our Kinghorn apartment window.

Plus I had to do my duty and visit my (93 year old) Mum in her nursing home in Glenrothes.
That's that done now until next Mother's Day, if the Lord spares her
(only kidding, I'm not quite that bad!) :yay

Hope to join you on a trip in the summer, meantime greatly enjoying seeing your pics. :thumbsup

Great pics guys, first pics I've seen of my boat on the plane, impressed with how little hull there is in the water. The Honwave performed admirably 2 up. In those conditions we could have blasted our way there and back - but what would have been the point? A relaxing speed and time to take in the views. Checked my fuel yesterday - 9.2 ltrs for 51 miles - WOW!!

Another clear one of you Mike:
P1020869.JPG
We definitely didn't have the Honwave setup right - think the floor pressures were a bit low / OB trimmed in too much for calm water. Looking at the photos, even with us both sitting aft, the wake broke quite a long way forward. Also had the dreaded floor bulge too... :thud

A great trip but we were definitely slower than normal and used more fuel than on previous trips; probably because we needed higher revs to keep up!

Your F-rib zipped along nicely and pulled away quickly when you wanted it to... :thumbsup

Looks like you guys and gal had a great run out, :drive :thumbsup

The honwaves floor pressure is really critical, if it’s not at full pressure the floor ripples really badly, usually I inflate mine to pressure and then recheck after being in the water for a while, as cold water can reduce the floor pressure

Cheers Steve, hope you don't mind - I've saved those pics, might include some into the video if ok with you and given credit of course - when the editing software doesn't keep falling over!! 3 times back to the beginning now. think I'll save all the footage to the network and process it on the main PC.

Well done on getting out on your wee trip up the silvery Tay, looks like it was like glass all the way. I didn’t know there was an activity centre at willow gate! Is the trout fishery closed now? I know they had problems with planning permission a few years back, I was not sure if it had closed down? I’ll be up for joining in on a trip come the better weather, I’m hoping the fishing will be good this year from the sib, so I’m waiting in anticipation to get out with a few others for a chuck. Cheers,,stewart..
