Staurday 28th April Hythe, Southampton water

Post by Andy B » 14 Apr 2018, 22:21

Me and Paul will be going out on Saturday 28th of April from Hythe Marina.
Paul it still running in his engine and will be testing different setups, I also have some things i want to try out.

If anyone want's to come along they are welcome, but be aware that me and Paul will be spending our time testing.
If everything goes to plan we will be on Southampton water or maybe venturing out into the Solent.

If you want to come down and do your own thing then that's also great....
Always nice to meet up, even if to just say hello.

Tides are early so it wont be a long day as we will probably have to recover by 14:30.
Our plan is to meet at the slip way at Hythe Marina at 10:00am and launch when ready.

Picked the boat up today Paul, brand new so will be there sat & hopefully won’t get nearly thrown out again.
Do you want me to pick you up another bacon roll on my way down?

Interesting day of testing, A bit of a mixed bag for me.
Wanted to try out the 30hp Mariner 2 stroke on my boat. You know, just because......
The good news is that it went like a stabbed rat!............. For about 5 seconds and then would die!
It will tick over all day and even run on mid throttle, but as soon as you crack it open it would die after a short while.
It's got to be fuel related (not enough of the stuff ;-) ) suspect weak fuel pump.

But that's what testing days are for.

So switched to the Mariner 9.9hp 4 stroke to test the newly fitted fins.
Boat was ventilating when turning before and i am glad to say that this has been cured :thumbsup
The fins i fitted were way to long so i cut them down to size. Seemed to work well.

Paul has now finished his running in period and was finally able to give it the beans. And i must say the boat looks good :thumbsup

And Mitch's replacement Honwave is a much better boat than the previous one.

I'm sure the lads will have there own input so i'l leave that to them. here's a few pictures from today, nothing exciting i'm affraid.

Although i'm sure Mitch will have a picture of Paul escorting me back to the slip way  :rofl

Thanks Andy & Paul, had a great day, really enjoyed myself now I’m not half a mile behind everyone, touched 23 knots & it went in a straight line, totally different boat to the other one just got to get me cushions sorted out now & to make it even better it didn’t rain.

Yeah an interesting day but worth doing IMO :thumbsup

Andy got to find a fault with his OB which went undetected running up at home but under load revealed itself :!:

Mitch got to test out his Honwave replacement and it steered straight (which is always a bonus  ) and he gave the now run-in OB some WOT and achieved 23 knots loaded up :yay
I've finally carried out the running in of the OB .... can't do otherwise with this ECU data logging malarky ...... so it's good to go now at last :thud

On the downside for me I did some video footage, about 8 videos, but the camera angle was hampered by the elastic contracting on my head which pointed the lense towards the sky
I've got a little footage from the day I'll load up tomorrow.

Thanks for the company guys and the bonus was it didn't rain as predicted :clappy
:cheers

Fault found.
So often it's the simple things....
But that's what real testing is about.

These problems never reveal themselves until you put the motor under load.
Filter look fine before, but as soon as the engine was placed under road it caved and restricted flow.
Anyway,
I short rummage in the boxes of spares and hopefully I'm good to go.
