Re: Mercury 20HP Efi - Smoke on the water
The plug was pulled by me the the organiser harrison because 48 hours before the original organised test date nobody was prepared to put their engine on the test boat I had pulled in loads of favours to arrange, despite several people coming along having suitable outboards . I was very embarrassed b...

Re: Takacat 3.4m LX - Tiny Tigga
Knox when I did my online research it seemed that cupping the prop had a better chance of success than adding a permatrim. And the cupping in my case worked perfectly. I also don’t like the extra drag from a hydrofoil (with 6hp you are going to need all 6hp and minimum drag). But if the permatrim i...

Re: Takacat 3.4m LX - Tiny Tigga
Hi Mark
The new smaller pitch, but cupped to bring the pitch back up, propeller has cured the ventilation.
I didn’t want to go down the route of hydrofoils, so no permatrim fitted.

Re: rpm range
The engine doesn’t need to be working in that rev range, it just needs to be between those two numbers when at wide open throttle.

Re: rpm range
A rev counter isn’t needed after you have done the wide open throttle tests and selected the optimum propeller. Just use the eBay one for prop testing, then remove it. If you had gears on an outboard a tachometer would be useful, but as we all only have one gear it’s an unnecessary bit of kit. Water...

Re: rpm range
It means you should select a propeller of a diameter and pitch than puts the engine inside this rev range when running at wide open throttle. If the engine cannot make 5250 rpm you are over propped and the engine will be labouring. If you exceed 6250 you are under propped and not loading the engine ...
